We had just landed at Taji, north of Baghdad, for a passenger pickup. (MAJ Pat O'Toole had been stationed there a few years ago, remember?)
Left side Gunner: Uh, sir. There's something you should take a look at here.
CW3 Pedersen: "Oh, oh. CPT Salisbury, one of the passengers is yelling at us."
CPT Salisbury: "What?"
CW3 Pedersen: "Yes, sir. On my side over to the left. He's behind the fence waiting to get onboard, and he's definitely excited about something."
CPT Salisbury: "Well if he thinks he's getting on my aircraft, he better not be yelling."
CW3 Pedersen: "It's okay, sir. He's settled down. He probably wasn't yelling anyway. More like barking."
CPT Salisbury: "...Very funny. Tell him he can get on as long as he doesn't eat anybody who's sitting at the flight controls."

So, how do dogs like flying in helicopters? I would think they would hate it. Did it go well?
Linda
P.S. Gunner wants to know if you can sling load Trigger?
The dog belonged to SGT Block. At least that's what the name tag said on the shepherd. Since he was a Working Dog, I believe he did bomb sniffing, or more likely, drug sniffing duties. His handler was a female; hard to tell from the photo though. He was yelling at the helicopters as we landed. When they ride with us, the handler usually has to try to cover their ears as much as possible, since they are so sensitive to the high frequency whine of the turbines. Pretty tough on the poor dogs, but they seem to be trained to ride in all kinds of situations. He didn't jump out, nor bite anyone, so I guess you could say it went well.
As for Trigger, he would have to travel in a Conex container if he goes with me. At least he doesn't bark.
I'm really unsure where I'll be living over the next few months. One short stint up north in support of the March Iraqi elections at another FOB for 4-6 weeks, moving down south probably in April or May, then one flight company moves way up north right after that.
Looks like I'll be a Bedouin with a different kind of camel. Love you all,
C-M/P/3 +Trigger (the wonder camel)
